Ladder Etiquette
A ladder league is different from Open Play that we are all so familiar with. It's a tremendously fun format, but it does rely on players adhering to some operating rules in addition to rules of play.
Basic Rules of Ladder Etiquette
Ladder leagues require players to commit to the event, unlike open play. The ladder functions best when we have 5 players on each court, so remember that your friends and fellow players are counting on you here.
Please review the following list of rules that we need players to abide by in order to run the best event possible.
Sign-up sheets open on Den 72 hours ahead of the event, regardless of which event you're considering.
Players must sign-up ahead of time and be at the event early to warm-up and be ready to start at the event start time.
Players should only sign-up for ONE ladder per week. For example, if you will play on Sunday, please don't play on Thursday, or vise verse. We currently have only 60 slots open (3 events, with 20 players each), so we want to give as many players an opportunity to play as possible.
If you played one event in a week and would like to play a second, you can put yourself on the signup sheet no more than 24 hours before the second event. This leaves time for other interested players to get on the list before we have repeat players in a week.
Players are allowed to sign-up themselves and one other member, if necessary. Please do not sign-up multiple friends or family members. This is to allow others the same "first come, first served" opportunity.
Players should only sign-up only if they believe they'll be available to play both rounds of the ladder; typically lasting 2.5 hrs total. We have more players than slots open, so if you're unavailable to play the entire event, please allow someone else to fill the slot.
If you realize that you cannot play or be on-time, please remove yourself from that week's sign-up sheet as soon as they know, but no later than 3 hours before the event. This allows the next player on the waitlist to be notified, and hopefully gives them enough time to arrange their schedule. To remove yourself, simply go to Sign-Up Sheets, then un-check the Date/Time checkbox.
The Sign-up Sheet will close 2 hours before start time. If a player cannot make it on time and don’t remove themself before the sheet closes, they will be considered a "no show".
No-Shows
For "no show" players, we will implement the following sign-up limitations going forward. This is meant to encourage good behavior, and to be fair to all players, especially those on the waitlist.
The first time a player doesn't show, they will receive a verbal reminder of these rules.
2nd time offenders will be set to "low priority" on the sign-up sheet for the next 2 weeks. This means they will fall to the waitlist if the event fills with other players, regardless of how soon the player signs-up.
3rd time offenders will be set to "low priority" on the sign-up sheet for the next 4 weeks.
I can't imagine we'll have anyone do this more than 3 times. :)
