DUPR Etiquette
I'm glad that more and more folks are getting onboard with DUPR and are trying to get scores entered. However, it has been brought to my attention that people are entering games without having discussed this BEFORE the game was played. This is not okay.
There are some norms in pickleball that we must adhere to. You rotate in with everyone at Open Play. You don't body-bag new players. And you don't enter games into DUPR unless all players agree to this before the game starts.
If you're onboard with this idea, there's no reason to read on. But if you're not sure you understand why, let me elaborate.
There are several good reasons why we do this, especially when playing in open play or a ladder league, meaning that you're rotating partners each game:
Maybe I don't play well with a certain player, and thus don't want my rating affected by being forced to play with them in a rec or ladder situation.
Maybe I've never even met one of the players before, so I don't want my game with them as my partner to affect my rating.
Maybe I have a tournament coming up and don't want my rating to be affected before that event.
In open play we are often playing more casually, or are working on new skills that we might not try in rated games.
There are other reasons, but honestly that's enough. If for some reason you still don't understand or agree, grab me at the park sometime and let's chat.
